Cultural Education Pathway at LIFV

Promoting Reading and Literature

Reading is a central component of the cultural pathway throughout students’ schooling. Several school-wide initiatives are implemented each year:

  • 10 Minutes of Reading, a daily shared reading time across the entire school to encourage reading for pleasure;
  • participation in the Prix des Incorruptibles, France’s national children’s literature award, involving primary pupils and Year 6 students, together with meetings with authors and illustrators;
  • the annual Night of Reading, held every January;
  • The Little Reading Champions competition for Year 4 and Year 5 pupils (CM1–CM2).

In secondary school, this focus is strengthened through activities designed to develop students’ vocabulary, oral communication, and public speaking skills.

A Rich and Diverse Arts Education

Students are introduced to a wide variety of artistic practices throughout their schooling, including:

  • visual arts projects such as Kamishibai storytelling, portrait work, and La Grande Lessive, an international collaborative art exhibition;
  • an introduction to cinema through the MS au cinéma programme for kindergarten pupils;
  • music projects, including an introduction to jazz, school musical celebrations, the middle school choir, and a contemporary music workshop;
  • performing arts, with theatre workshops led by professional artists and, in secondary school, a circus workshop exploring movement, the body, and beauty.

These initiatives provide students with opportunities to meet artists, discover artistic works, and engage in creative practice.

Developing Scientific and Digital Culture

The programme also promotes scientific and technological literacy through a range of initiatives, including:

  • the annual Science Day in primary school;
  • the Robot Challenge;
  • the Night of Code for secondary students;
  • educational activities exploring Artificial Intelligence (AI).

These projects foster inquiry-based learning, coding skills, experimentation, and digital literacy.

Citizenship and Cultural Heritage

The cultural pathway also contributes to students’ civic education through projects such as:

  • an artistic project inspired by JR, focusing on gender equality in science;
  • a historical study of the Second World War in Year 10 (Seconde);
  • community events including the Christmas Celebration, Music Festival, and End-of-Year Celebration, which showcase students’ artistic and cultural achievements.

Media and Information Literacy

Media and Information Literacy (MIL) is mainly developed in secondary school through:

  • the School Web Radio, where students produce and broadcast their own content;
  • news and information analysis workshops (Classe Investigation), designed to strengthen critical thinking and media literacy.
